The GCMDW: the story
Thought up and initiated by Jean Philippe L'Huillier, President of the Sailing section of the Versoix Nautical Club, the Dominique Wavre Sea Competition Group (GCMDW) was created 9 years ago.
This ‘group’ was the source of Dominique’s support during his participation in the Solitaire de Figaro and the double-handed transat AG2R; helping the skipper in the search for partners, as well as logistical and administrative support. This team of friends originally came together in 1997; numbers increasing with each new race to over 200 supporting members today that share in the Adventure.

The Groupe Compétition Mer, more commonly known as the ‘support group’ presided over by Michel Humbert Droz, takes part in the logistical organisation of the various projects. The group often provides the necessary local support at race
starts, and also shares in the pleasure of the finishes (see the last two Vendée Globes where numerous members of the GCMDW put their shoulders to the wheel!)
Members are regularly invited to organised gatherings and conference evenings. These privileged occasions, like that of Ecogia at the return of the Vendée Globe, often bring together over 200 people (members and partners) with real success.
Photos and films brought back from the high seas prove particularly inspiring to participants. News bulletins are regularly published and distributed to members, to enable them to keep on top of the various activities and invitations.
The ‘G.C.M.D.W’ supporters club, contributes greatly to the sportsman’s excellent standing during competition, as well as in less pleasureable moments when seeking partners.
Its committee works towards the organisation and coordination of the project volunteers, with Christiane providing the secretariat.
